All in a day's work

Here are some shot of the cat checking out the first snow of the season. Unfortunately for her she decided to ditch her sweater (yes my cat had a sweater) somewhere in the yard a few weeks ago. Its a good thing her hair is growing long again

My car and the front of our house when I got home this afternoon

So I think its going to take me awhile to get used to how this site functions. Bear with me.
I have decided to try communicating here, and since I am not always the best communicator I cant always promise regular updates but I can promise that I will try and remember that the events I consider to be mundane are often the ones that people want to hear about. We have had quite a bit of action around here recently so this might be a good time to start reading.
The start of the school year finds me back at the elementary school working in the same SPED classrooms as last year, which means my days are never boring. It also means I cant go into a lot of detail on the Internet. There will be a position opening up soon at the school for a SPED teaching assistant in the classroom I am currently working in and I plan to apply for this position. If I get it great, if not then no big deal because I will stay with the agency I am at and will be working in that classroom regardless. The upside would be that I would no longer have to work with the kids during holidays or other days when school is out (staff development days, conference days, etc) The downside possibly being that it would mean being out of a job during the summer months, though it wouldn't be too hard to find part time work and if I play my cards right I might be able to work with my current agency during the summer. I have also applied for a master's program in Special Education through the University of North Dakota. It is another online program which means it won't interfere with my current schedule and it will put me on track for obtaining my teaching credentials at a later date. I should know my final status by Thanksgiving and if all goes well, will be starting classes after the new year. I am hoping that all of these steps will continue to help me and out me ahead of the game when I go to apply for other teaching oriented positions.
Jamie has moved on from the moving company and we are very proud and excited for him with this move. He is now working for Halliburton (www.halliburton.com) and is "stationed" so to speak in Vernal Utah. He will be commuting from Utah to Alaska and back for work every few weeks. He is currently on the cement crew which, as far as I know, is responsible for filling old oil wells. It doesn't sound all that glamorous or exciting but it is a break from the hard labor and overall is and will be a better move for us in the future. We have been hoping and praying for an opportunity like this and are glad that it has finally happened. Being apart is an adjustment but it is a sacrifice we are willing to make right now and it will make the time we have together all the better. We have always known that we are one of those couples that seem to do better when we have these opportunities to be apart.
This month has meant quickly preparing for winter and the changes that always happen around the holidays. Another rainy summer has come and gone and we have been rapidly approaching temperatures of at least freezing, happy for the days when the high temperature is in the mid-40's. Today was the first day not of snow but of snow actually accumulating and staying on the ground. By Halloween it will be time to put the kids in their snowsuits so they can go trick-or-treating and definitely remembering to bring a hat and gloves to work for recess.
